The Art of Dying Tidily, Tuesday 24 June 2025 @ 5.30pm
A Talk in the Ballroom at Langley School
While not perhaps the most beguiling of topics, it is an essential one – for all of us. Do come and hear Chedgrave resident Matthew Hutton speaking about his book Your Last Gift – Getting Your Affairs in Order, for 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes Q&A. Tea and coffee will be available from 5.30pm, with the Talk starting at 6pm and the formal part finishing soon after 7pm. Matthew will stay on to answer any further questions and will have copies of his book available for purchase (at £19.99).
As well as being what he describes as an armchair farmer, Matthew is a retired Private Client Solicitor and Tax & Trusts Adviser and most recently since 2014 an Ordained Minister in the Church of England.
Matthew had noticed that while there are plenty of excellent books on the subject of bereavement and dealing with grief, there was a big gap in the market for something very practical, on all the things with which those bereaved have to deal following a death – and which often comes as something as a huge shock and surprise. So, encouraged by friends, two of whom had been recently widowed, he decided to put pen to paper.
The book brings together both the professional and the pastoral aspects of Matthew’s working life. Enlivened by cartoons and quotations, the book is less than 120 pages, intended to be ‘Concise but Comprehensive’. It concludes with a couple of Checklists and five Forms for recording all the essential information, which can be completed either on Excel Schedules online or in hard copy.

And please do let Matthew know whether you are coming by emailing him on mcahutton@gmail.com – BEFORE Wednesday 18 June.
