Get hands-on with technology at your local library throughout February

DigiFest is an annual celebration of digital creativity in Norfolk libraries throughout February. With free events for children and young people aged up to 16, there is something for every aspiring digital mind.

Aiming to inspire the next generation of coders and creators, DigiFest forms part of Norfolk County Council's digital inclusion strategy and helps hundreds of children develop essential skills, build confidence and have fun.

Next month, over 100 free events will take place across Norfolk's 47 libraries. Children and young people are being encouraged to try their hand at stop-motion animation, learn basic coding skills with different robots, create with 3D pens, and more.

Special sessions run by partners include: Lego™ robotics sessions with ICT Solutions, Norfolk's experts in introducing children to new technology; in Thetford and Great Yarmouth libraries, Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies are hosting cyber security escape rooms for 12-16-year-olds; in Norwich, global digital transformation provider UST will run a workshop on virtual reality.

Councillor Margaret Dewsbury, Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “Lack of digital access, motivation and trust are thought to be key barriers to digital and STEM learning. DigiFest uses our network of libraries and community links to create and promote playful, interactive and inclusive digital activities and events.

“This was recognised by the Campaign for Family Learning as DigiFest won the Award for Family Learning to Support STEM last year. Over 87% of DigiFest attendees reported that they felt more inspired by, and confident with, technology.”

DigiFest runs from 1-28 February, with many of the events and activities falling in half-term week. All events are free, but most require pre-booking – find out more at www.norfolk.gov.uk/digifest
