2023, Big Norfolk Holiday fun

Children across Norfolk are benefiting from a range of fun activities this summer, as the Big Norfolk Holiday Fun scheme is now in full swing for the school holidays.

The scheme is delivered by Norfolk County Council in partnership with Active Norfolk and supports children aged 5 to 16 as part of the government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. The scheme provides free activities and food for children eligible for means tested free school meals and is funded by the Department for Education.

Cllr Penny Carpenter, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Norfolk County Council said: “Our Big Norfolk Holiday Fun scheme is going from strength to strength and this summer is our biggest yet. We’ve had great feedback from children and young people who have taken part in the past. Over half of those children report doing more regular physical activity and 1 in 3 children are choosing to eat more healthily since taking part in Big Norfolk Holiday Fun.”

“We’ve got an even wider range of activities on offer to keep children interested and busy during the Summer.  We’re not only offering the usual range of indoor and outdoor sports but we’re also running activities teaching children and young people different skills such as automotive maintenance, circus skills, swimming, and even zoo keeping.”

“There are still some spaces left and parents can continue to book activities throughout the summer .”

The scheme started on 24 July and runs until 5 September. Children will have the opportunity to learn a new skill, play a range of sports or take part in a host of activities such as outdoor adventures, science workshops, cooking, art, and lots more.

The summer programme has started for the summer but there are still places left for parents interested in booking something for their child. Those who are eligible for means-tested free school meals can claim free spaces, whilst paid spots are available on many activities for those who don’t for a small charge.
